NASSCO Technical Director
The Technical Director’s primary responsibility is to support NASSCO in its mission to set standards for the assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of underground infrastructure and to assure the continued acceptance and growth of trenchless technologies. In doing so, the Technical Director will know, understand and represent all trenchless technologies as viable solutions for failing underground infrastructure. The Technical Director will accomplish this through industry advocacy, education and the development of resources. This is a part-time consulting position; compensation commensurate with experience. While NASSCO's office is located in Marriottsville, MD we welcome all applicants with the ability to work remotely.
The ideal candidate must either a) possess a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering (or a related field) and have at least ten years of field experience in the sewer assessment/rehabilitation industry; or b) have compiled extensive industry knowledge and field experience and is recognized as an expert in the field of underground infrastructure inspection and repair.
The candidate must be objective in his or her presentation of trenchless technologies, recognizing the benefits of each for unique purposes, and never promoting one manufacturer or supplier over another. Candidate shall possess excellent written and oral communications skills and must be proficient in MS Office.
As an ambassador of NASSCO and its many training programs, the candidate must have a working knowledge of and be certified in current NASSCO training programs including Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP®); Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP®); Lateral Assessment Certification Program (LACP®); and the Inspector Training Certification Program (ITCP®) for manhole rehabilitation and cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technologies. A qualified candidate without these certifications may be considered; however, he or she must successfully complete certification classes upon execution of service agreement.
Candidate must be actively and/or willing to become involved in industry organizations including NUCA, NASTT, WEF, TTC, CUIRE, UESI, ASTM and others.
Technical Director Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Participating as an active member on any and all NASSCO Committees, as required
- Preparing or updating product/process specifications or other NASSCO documents
- Writing and/or editing NASSCO magazine articles and technical white papers
- Developing content for NASSCO technical or training programs and documents to include online coursework and recertification programs, as required
- Preparing presentations for industry conferences and other events
- Organizing educational tracks at various industry events and moderating, as required
- Monitoring and reporting industry trends, news or occurrences that affect NASSCO and its members, as they occur
- Fielding industry questions and providing or coordinating the appropriate response through applicable channels
- Reviewing internal and external proposals for industry studies or other technical projects
- Reviewing applications and providing recommendations for various NASSCO Scholarships
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
