NASSCO’s 2009 Annual Meeting a Success!

NASSCO’s Annual Meeting & Golf Tournament which was held Feb. 11-14, 2009 at the Wyndham in sunny Palm Springs, CA was a huge success! The information-packed meeting featured lively discussions of NASSCO business and comprehensive technical sessions. Topics included:

  • OSHA Findings and What They Mean To You
  • Implications of the Styrene Task Force Report
  • Updates on NASSCO's ITCP and PACP Training
  • TAG-R

This year, we conducted a post meeting survey of those who attended in order to help us customize future meetings in order to meet your needs. The majority of attendees came to the meeting for the networking and education opportunities and indicated to us that the meeting met their expectations. Most stated that this year's meeting was better than in year's past.

NASSCO members networked with one another for the duration of the meeting while contributing to various committee agendas during the breakout sessions on Thursday, February 12th. Groups such as the Infrastructure Condition Assessment Committee, chaired by Rod Thornhill with White Rock Consultants, discussed changes and updates to the PACP Reference Manual and accompanying software for 2009. The newly created CIPP Committee, chaired by Lynn Osborn with Insituform, met to discuss future plans and task items on the list for completion this year.

The 2009 Jeffrey D. Ralston Scholarship was awarded to Andrew O’Connor whose father is Bob O’Connor with Municipal & Contractors Sealing Products, Inc. Andrew is currently attending the University of Dayton and majoring in Entrepreneurship and Finance, which he plans to use to help further the business. We wish him luck.

The Select Society of Sanitary Sewer Sleuths 2009 inductee was Michael Hogan with Duke’s Root Control. Congratulations!

Be sure to join us in 2010 in Miami Lakes, FL at Shula's Hotel and Golf Club. Visit them on the web at www.donshulahotel.com

You’re Invited to the IPBA Meeting at NO-DIG 2009

Please join us at the annual meeting of the International Pipe Bursting Association (IPBA) scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2009 from 3-5pm at the No-Dig conference in Toronto, Canada.

The IPBA is a Division of NASSCO and is dedicated to the development of unbiased performance specifications and the development of industry standards for the pipe bursting industry. Members participate in the development of state-of-the-art techniques for determining soil conditions, more efficient excavation methods for service connections and programs that provide training for engineers and inspectors to provide them with a better understanding of the technology and its proper installation.

The meeting is open to all who have an interest in the pipe bursting technology and membership in IPBA is recommended for those who would enjoy being in the forefront of this cutting edge technology.

Notice of Free upgrade for WinCan V8 PACP Compliant customers

Randolph, New Jersey—March 1, 2009— Recently there has been confusion in the industry concerning WinCan v8 and “PACP Compliant “modules that have been released. CD Lab is confirming that the term “compliant” is not acceptable when offering the PACP and will assure “certified” is used to promote this module immediately. Unfortunately, some WinCan v8 users have received “compliant” PACP modules that do not allow them to import/export their data freely. CD Lab wants to assure the industry that those who were sold the “compliant” module will soon be able to import/export their data freely.

Envirosight, ARIES Industries and RapidView IBAK will provide free PACP upgrades to WinCan v8 users who had purchased licenses improperly marketed as “PACP-compliant” . Any license holder who paid for PACP compliant software and is missing either the observation codes or the import/export utility can contact the supplier of their choosing for this free license upgrade. Additionally, letters will be sent to each PACP license holder along with a follow up phone call to inform them of their options.

Existing and prospective WinCan customers may contact Envirosight by calling (866) 936-8476, emailing wincan@envirosight.com, or visiting www.envirosight.com/wincan.

Existing and prospective WinCan customers may contact ARIES Industries by calling (800) 234-7205, emailing info@ariesind.com, or visiting http://www.ariesind.com/navigation.asp?location=5

Existing and prospective WinCan customers may contact RapidView IBAK by calling (800) 656-IBAK (4225), emailing info@rapidview.com, or visiting http://rapidview.com/software.htm.

Ad Retraction

The recently released NASSCO Times had an ad with incorrect information regarding the requirements of PACP certified software. The PACP Export function has always been a requirement of any PACP software. It has never been an option for any NASSCO PACP certified version; 2.2 or 4.2. The 4.2 certification also requires that a PACP Import function is provided with the PACP mode in all certified software programs. Please contact us if your PACP software product does not contain an export or import function.

Call 410-486-3500 or email Irv Gemora.

Have You Renewed?

Membership renewal fees were due Jan 16, 2009. If you haven't already sent in your renewal fee, please do so today. Keep your membership active and continue to enjoy the many benefits of NASSCO membership. If you have any questions about your membership status, please email Andrea Carter.

Let's Do It Again!

Given the success of our first membership challenge last year, we’ve created another campaign to keep the momentum going and to keep NASSCO growing! This year, the prizes are even bigger and that’s because our goal is even higher – NASSCO’s goal is to recruit 100 new members in 2009. The NASSCO member who brings in the most new members (a minimum of 9 new members who join) in 2009 will receive $2,000 American Express Gift. Here's how it works:

Let's Go with NASSCO! Hitting 100

Let's Go with NASSCO! Hitting 100 is a 2009 membership challenge open to all active NASSCO members. The rules are simple: Help NASSCO recruit 100 new members in 2009 by referring people you know who would benefit from all that NASSCO has to offer. The easiest way to do this? Network, network, network! As you convert prospects, make sure they put your name on the membership application form as a referral so you will receive credit. Communicate the value of your NASSCO membership wherever you go, and tell others how a NASSCO membership is great for business and professional growth through our strong network of industry professionals and exceptional training and education.

Start now and keep going – while the NASSCO member who recruits the most new members by December 31, 2009 will receive a grand prize* of a $2,000 American Express gift card, the second place winner will receive a $1,000 American Express gift card.* Other prizes to be determined. Once again, contractors count as “two” – so reach out to as many people as you can.

We will update you periodically to let you know who's in the lead, so get started today! Good luck!
