NASSCO's Annual Meeting Declared a Record-Breaking Success
A revamped meeting format which placed all NASSCO's business items on the first day and a heavy focus on technical sessions the second day made NASSCO's annual meeting the most successful in the organization's history. More than 80 members attended the three-day meeting held February 13-16, 2008 in sunny Fort Myers, Florida. A few highlights of the meeting included:

  • Call to Action - FOR ALL NASSCO Members
NASSCO Board Member Kathy Romans spoke on behalf of the NASSCO Safety Committee and its review of OSHA's recent Proposed Rule for Confined Spaces in Construction. OSHA's Proposed Rule for Confined Spaces in Construction and will significantly impact the daily operations of our membership. NASSCO is preparing a letter to request that OSHA convene a public hearing on this issue. NASSCO encourages members to contact state and federal officials to call attention to this matter. Members can also send letters on their company letterhead requesting a public hearing. Follow these steps:
    • Go to www.regulations.gov
    • Search for "confined space in construction" under Comments or Submission
    • Choose: "send a comment of submission"
    • Fill out form and attach the letter

OSHA is accepting comments on this rule until Feb. 28th.

8 in '08 Challenge
"The 8 in '08 Challenge" is an exciting campaign that will give you recognition and exciting prizes just for doing what members already do great - referring new members to NASSCO. Here's how it works:

  • Secure 8 new NASSCO members in 2008 and you will receive a $1,000 American Express gift card.
  • Secure 6 new members and receive a $500 American Express gift card.
  • Secure 5 new members and you'll receive a $100 gift certificate from Omaha Steaks.

That's not all... new members that are "contractors" will be counted twice. That means if you refer four contractors that counts as 8 new members and you're a $1,000 winner! As you know, NASSCO was founded as a contractor organization and is proud to have grown to become the leading organization for anyone involved in the rehabilitation of underground utilities. However, over the years, the number of contractor members has not grown as rapidly as other titles. NASSCO hopes this incentive will help us increase the number of contractor members in addition to other titles in its membership.
