Trenchless Equipment Manufacturers Association (TEMA)
TEMA originated out of a meeting held between Aries Industries, R.S. Technical Services, UEMSI, Sreco Flexible, CUES, Telespector and NASSCO in April of 1999. This meeting was held in response to the tremendous amount of confusion circulating in the marketplace in regards to the necessity of explosion proof video equipment and the involvement of OSHA in regards to any equipment operating in waste water systems. The conclusion of this first meeting was that there was a need in the industry for an organization dedicated to the education of the users of trenchless equipment; this organization should also be at the forefront of lobbying government agencies in regard to the establishment of regulation and controls affecting this industry.
In late summer of 1999, TEMA formally incorporated in the state of Wisconsin as a non-profit lobbying organization. Realizing that issues addressed by TEMA would be of interest to not only manufacturers of equipment destined for underground work, any reference to video equipment was purposely omitted from the name. It is TEMA's desire to charter membership from all manufacturers of trenchless equipment. TEMA's charter membership consists of Aries Industries, R.S. Technical Services, UEMSI and Sreco Flexible.
Building a war chest from initiation fees and annual dues, TEMA is intent on the following:
- Educate users and potential users on the suitability of currently manufactured equipment for use in trenchless applications.
- Be involved with and lobby regulatory agencies in regards to legislation affecting the trenchless industry.
- Act as a self-regulating body in regards to the safety of the equipment being manufactured for the trenchless industry.
- Be involved in the establishment of industry standards.
- Influence questionable marketing practices by member companies.
